1
Electronic Voting Machine (EVM)
EVMs replaced paper ballots in India to make voting faster, prevent invalid votes, and stop booth capturing. An EVM consists of a Control Unit and a Ballot Unit.
2
Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT)
A machine attached to the EVM that prints a paper slip containing the chosen candidate's serial number, name, and symbol.
3
How it works
The VVPAT slip is visible through a glass window for 7 seconds so the voter can verify their vote, before it automatically drops into a sealed box.
